These Bhut Jolokia Pepper seeds were grown Organicly in total isolation (no other pepper plants within 1 mile or more) to insure absolute genetic purity. Not greenhouse grown. The parent seeds came from plants that tested over 1,000,000 (1 million) SKU's. Be careful from whom you buy your seeds from. Many, if not most Bhut Jolokia Pepper seed producers, do not grow their peppers in total isolation. This will ALWAYS diminish the heat characteristics (SHU's) of the Bhut Jolokia Pepper. The Georgia Department of Agriculture found that these Bhut Jolokia Pepper seeds had a germination rate of 85%, the same as the Bhut Jolokia seed sold by the Chile Pepper Institute at New Mexico State University. Some Jolokia seeds pods from India are not true to strain since there are so many kinds. Be careful with other seed companies some seed pods are also heat treated from foreign countries making seeds infertil outherwise they would need a seed import permit for each shipment. I purchased 50 Bhut Jolokia seeds from you back in August. I purchased 50+, and actually received 72 seeds! I planted and protected them from our storms, and with Florida's heat and humidity, I have had an excellent germination rate of 89% - 64 out of 72 seeds have germinated so far. About 1/2 of these seeds germinated in 2-3 weeks; the rest took a full 6 weeks, so I may have a few stragglers still to come. I have already moved about 25 plants up into 4" pots. You might also want to include a recommendation in your add to wear gloves while handling the SEED, too. I have planted a lot of pepper seeds over the years, but these seeds actually left the palm of my hand burning for almost 6 hours after planting them! Thank you for making these seeds available! Starting Your Seeds. Here's my secret to getting as much as 95% germination. I plant seeds in 1" oasis hortacubes (160 per tray) after chilling in the refridge (not freezer) for 2 days. I cover with fine coconut coir dust. Put in a tray with no holes and keep 1/4" of water in tray. I use city water. Keep warm betwen 75 and 85 at day and a little cooler at night is ok. Keep a little water in tray at all times and cover with newspaper after wetting the cubes. I keep in a dark place for 4 days then check and when i see a sprout i put them little new borns in full sun for the morning till 2:00 pm then shade the rest of the day. Keep this up till the second round of leaves then use 1/2 strength of Up-start Root stimulator, and for the next 2 weeks every time i water them. When you start with seeds that have had the dormancy broken the seeds will sprout right away. Most will not break the dormancy because it takes hand cleaning and scraping after the dried peppers are 5 weeks old and very pugnet. A gas mask is need to clean the seeds. I know of no one but me who will do this for their customers. I garantee 100% that you will be happy with my seeds or a refund or replacement will be given, your choice.
